Using ProSpot Fitness Equipment is amazingly simple. The Rule of Thumb is an important instruction recommended by ProSpot Fitness engineers and strength training experts to ensure a complete and proper workout with our equipment for most exercises*.
Sometimes referred to as "Open Hand", "False Grip" or "Sissy Grip" , ProSpot's Rule of Thumb is a style of grip in which the thumb does not wrap around the bar. To comply with the rule, simply tuck the thumb to touch the index finger on each of your hands before gripping the barbell.

The Rule of Thumb works in conjunction with three easy steps which are to be used each time you approach the barbell in your workout on ProSpot Fitness equipment.

1. Grab the barbell with both hands using the grip shown in inset photo. Be sure the barbell is rotated to a position that the touch sensor makes direct contact with the fingertips.

2. Lift the barbell 1" to unlock and go on with your exercises. Remember, as long as your fingertips maintain contact with the touch sensor, the barbell remains unlocked and you can perform any exercise you choose.

3. Open your hands, or a single hand if you prefer, to lock the barbell instantly. Confirm the the barbell is securely locked in position before removing your hands completely.

*There are some exercises that the "Rule of Thumb" does not apply to i.e. curls, however for most exercises it is strongly advised to make it a practice within your workout routine.

Remember: It is important to always keep your hands underneath the barbell until you are certain the barbell is securely locked in position
